Travelers can explore the colorful Nyhavn harbor, wander through the self-governed community of Christiania Freetown, or appreciate the commitment to sustainability with green spaces and bike-friendly roads. With its rich heritage, dynamic lifestyle, and emphasis on community, Copenhagen is a city that appeals to all travelers.

  • Go on a food tour of Copenhagen- this is my absolute favorite way to explore a city. You get the best of both worlds- a knowledgeable local sharing facts about the city while eating fantastic foods. Literally can't go wrong.

Beer Walk Tour with Politically Incorrect Tours- Who doesn't love a tour with alcohol and funky jokes? Sign me up.

Visit Christiania Freetown- Christiania Freetown is a self-governing community in Copenhagen. A trip to Copenhagen is truly not complete without visiting this unique section of the city. If you do choose to visit, be mindful of their rules, including not taking photos on Pusher Street.

Madeira, Portugal

Madeira, Portugal, is a group of islands off the coast of Africa famous for its beautiful landscapes and is often coined the “Hawaii of the Atlantic.” Travelers have a variety of different options when visiting including walking along scenic levadas, going on hikes that reward you with jaw dropping views, or relaxing on pebble beaches on the coast. It is the perfect mix between adventure and tranquility.

  • Sunrise Hike to Pico Ruivo- visiting Pico Ruivo, the highest peak on the island, at sunrise is a spectacular sight.

There are two options to accomplish this hike:

    • Shorter option: Take PR1.2 Trail from Achada do Teixeria and climb about 2.8km (around an hour) to the summit.

    • Longer option: Take the Vereda do Arieiro (PR1) connecting Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo. The whole hike is about 15km and can take about 4-6 hours.

Things to consider: Weather on Pico Ruivo can be unpredictable and changes rapidly. I would suggest taking a tour for this reason. My recommendations are linked below.

If you choose to hike on your own, make sure to check the weather ahead of time.

Take the Funchal Cable Car to Monte- the Funchal Cable Car connects Funchal to the cute town of Monte. The cable car takes about 15-25 minutes each way and is 18 euro round trip. You can purchase tickets here: https://madeiracablecar.com/en/

Willemstad, Curacao

Curacao is a tiny Dutch Caribbean island known for having a vibrant culture and beautiful blue waters. Willemstad, the capital of Curacao and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a mix of colonial architecture, charming streets lined with pastel buildings, and has a thriving food scene. Does it get any better than this? Yes- it does. Curacao is located under the hurricane belt, which allows it to be one of a few Caribbean countries you can visit during August.

  • BOHO Bohemian Boutique Hotel

As the name suggests, this super cute, boho chic hotel is located in central Willemstad, within walking distance from fantastic restaurants and Avila beach.
